FAQs – EEA FAMILY PERMIT
After the Brexit on 31 January 2020, the deadline to apply for either pre-settled or settled status in the UK, the EEA family member needs to be in the UK by or before 30th June 2021.
If both EEA and their Family members, either immediate or extended are not in the UK by 30th June 2021, they both must:
- have applied for pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme,
- proof their relationship began before 30th June 2021 (or before 31 December 2025 for family members of Swiss citizens)
The initial EEA family permit is valid for 6 months which means that during this period the holder of this visa can leave and enter the UK as many times as they want.
You can live and work in the UK on EEA family permit as a dependant of EEA citizen if he/she is a qualified person.
EEA family permit is a non settlement visa which allows the non-EU family member to live in the UK for 6 months. Once the EEA family permit expires, you can apply for EU Settlement Scheme if you and your EU sponsor meets the eligibility criterion.
